Baer’s work in developing a home video game system that worked in conjunction with a television dates back to 1966, though the idea first came to Baer while he was a television engineer in the early 1950s. Known as the Magnavox Odyssey, the console was a marketable version of the Brown Box designed by Ralph Baer, the Father of Video Games. ![]() Nearly forty years have passed since the first home video game console was released by Magnavox in the early 1970s.
